Alumni update: Hayfield’s Wilson wraps up college basketball career

WAVERLY, IOWA — Hayfield grad Leslie Wilson finished her basketball career at Wartburg with one last award as she was named the Iowa Intercollegiate Athletic Conference defensive player of the year.

Wilson, a senior forward who graduated from Hayfield in 2008, spearheaded the conference’s second-best scoring defense, which allowed only 60.8 points per game in league play. She also ranked among the league’s top shooters, leading the league in field goal percentage (59.1 percent on 83-of-140 shooting) and ranking third in scoring (15.3 points per game). She also ranked ninth in steals with a 1.75 per-game average.

Wilson was also selected to the All-IIAC and she made the first team.

The Knights finished with an 18-9 record and their season came to an end on a 66-63 loss to Simpson College Feb. 23.

Wilson had 16 points and eight rebounds in her last college game.

Wilson finishes her college career with 689 points and over half of them were scored this past season.

Wilson is Hayfield’s all-time leading scorer with 1,418 points.
