More than just food at the market

Why should you and your family shop at a Farmers Market?

The very act of buying food in a farmers’ market alone has many health benefits. Farmers’ markets are open air affairs, where shoppers can enjoy the fresh air and sunshine instead of being in the confines of a supermarket with its recycled air and artificial lighting.

Basking in the sun and being exposed to its ultraviolet B (UVB) rays helps our skin to synthesize Vitamin D3. This vitamin helps to maintain bone density, promotes healthy bone growth and contributes to a healthy nervous system.

More importantly for women, Vitamin D also helps the body absorb calcium and prevents osteoporosis. Also, there are no junk food aisles to tempt you or your children.

It’s an educational experience for children to shop at a Farmers Market, it gives them the opportunity to talk to the farmer who grows their food.

Farmer’s markets are a great place for kids to learn about wholesome foods and what things look like straight from the garden.

This year, we are going to be offering a variety of children’s activities at our market, so be sure to bring your family down for some fresh air, sunshine, fun times and fresh food.
