The “New Smitty’s Tavern” held a Chili Cookoff on Sunday, Feb. 5 and all the proceeds from the event were donated to the Mower County Humane Society’s new building fund.

Smitty’s new owners, Mike Madsen and Kathy Madison, presented Jay Lutz, MCHS president, with a donation of $411.

Smitty’s Tavern is the first business to help out the Humane Society by conducting a fundraiser for its new building. The Humane Society’s goal is to raise $200,000.

Hey, that’s neat! Way to go, Smitty’s!! Haven’t been in there since they changed hands, but it always used to be a nice cozy spot to have a beer, play some pool and listen to the juke box.
