Police investigating break-in at salon

Published 10:47am Friday, January 27, 2012

Austin police are investigating a break-in overnight Wednesday at the Edge Salon.

An employee of the salon called police Thursday morning after she discovered the front door forced open, according to Police Chief Brian Krueger.

Two laptops and an undetermined amount of cash were taken, Krueger said.

The salon is located in the 400 block of First Street NW. It was closed Thursday due to the break-in, according to the salon’s Facebook page.

The incident is under investigation and no other details are available.

Rhino, what do you mean that Karma thing? A salon gets broken into and robbed. Who deserves that?

Rhino, exactly what KARMA are you referring to?! Karma is a personal matter and so you feel that all of the employees of the salon and the owner deserved this? Maybe you should be a suspect?!

Hey anothersoldier how about a salon that does bad business and other concerns. Agreed that it sucks to be broken in to but maybe it WAS karma you don’t know!!

Rhino – you obviously have no idea of the definition of Karma. Here is one: “Hinduism, Buddhism. action, seen as bringing upon oneself inevitable results, good or bad, either in this life or in a reincarnation” Now please explain your first comment????

  • Rhino

Never said anybody deserved it… DID I???

    I simply stated it was KARMA… DIDN’T I???

basic definition of KARMA… do something good, something will come back to you, so something bad, something bad will come back to you. Its an eastern mystical concept.

I don’t like how the owner treated her former staff… There is a reason they all quit the same day. Hence the karma she brought on herself.

concernedaustincitzen… I am not a suspect because there is no reason for me to be a suspect. But if you would like to call the LEC and have them look into me, feel free. They know how to get a hold of me.

    Hmmmm..very worrisome. On all fronts.
    What have we learned everyone?
Let us start with the Facts of the case:

    1. A break-in downtown, mere blocks from the police department. Disturbing.
    2. People throwing out general statements (accusations may be more appropriate) about other’s livelihoods and moral turpitude?! Ridiculous.
    3. Speaking vaguely, and Passive aggressively. Amazing.
    4. Style Lounge owners walking out without notice. False.

I have met all owners, stylists involved in these vague renderings of an argument. Work ethics exist. Things are never as simple as they seem. There is no inherent evil here people. There are only people that either have, or should move on. Revenge, karma, anger, jealousy…doesn’t it all seem so trivial in the grand scheme?

Good…now go get your hair done by the one you love. You know it will make you feel better.

It’s a shame when things like this happen. As if it wasn’t hard enough for a small business to keep a positive flow of money, then having to deal with thievery on several levels? A shame, I tell you.

I just hope for Sharon’s sake she didn’t keep personal information on those laptops. Hers or The Edge clienteles’.

Sadly, there is little defense against this sort of thing. Better locks/stronger barriers cost money, and budgets are already tight with the current economic climate. Installing a monitoring system isn’t much defense either.

I have had enough! I have tried to stay silent and just let it go, but I can no longer.
My name is Sharon Teigen and am the owner of The Edge Salon.
There is a few who claim they know all the facts of what happened to my salon. Well unless you were there personally when things happened , you truly don’t have the facts. There are 7 people who were there whent his horrible day happened. That would be the five staff members who walked out, my fiancé and myself.
I am going to tell you all the true facts because it is apparent that is the topic of this comment feed, not the fact that my business was robbed.
So here it is, all the raw hurtful details.
I had a vision to open a place where the staff and all of our guests could come and have a fun environment to be in! I started what I thought would be the perfect place on September 3rd 2003.
I made a decision to bring a partner on in 2008.
On Saturday October 30th 2010 I received a call from one of my staff members asking for me to come down because all the girls were having a meeting. I stated we had a meeting scheduled on that Monday and asked if it was really impotent because I was in the middle of putting things away into storage for the winter with my fiancé.
They stated it was important to come. We went to the salon and my styling team were all sitting in the waiting area with a piece of paper.
One of the girls spoke first and said “We want to thNk you for all you have done, but we are The team of the Edge and have decided to leave” I was godsmacked to say the least! I didn’t know what to say.
Then one of the other girls stated that they were unhappy and that this was transferring into their home life. I asked when and what was going on? I was totally clueless! We all seemed happy and was having fun at work! I conduct monthly one on ones and always ask if there is anything they want to talk about or if they needed anything,
Before anything happened, my partner and I dissolved our partnership.
I had begun to invest my savings into the salon to give it a fresh look and a fresh start. I asked all the staff if they were staying or thinking about leaving to the other salon. They all stated they were staying with The Edge. So I continued to invest into the salon.
The day the girls walked out was the worse day of my life! Not because of the money, but because I cared for them all, and would go to all lengths to help them on a personal level. Then to have them walk out was like finding your spouse in bed with another person. The pain was unmeasurable!
You state that they gave me a notice, well that is not true. They walked out on me on a Saturday, that Monday I started receiving calls from clients stating they received a letter stating the girls left and had joined my expartner at their new salon and invited them to come along.
After a year of hardship, personally and financially I had to make the decision to fille bankruptcy. This was as hard as watching those I cared about walk out on me. Absolute devastation!
As for stating that I treated my staff badly, I would love to know details on that. Helping them in times of need, helping them with starting out in the world with furniture and such, giving a ton of time off for personel reasons and making sure their guest were taking care of and making sure they were rescheduled on their books.
As I was trying to recover after such devastation, I come to work to discover my salon was robbed! Not only was I robbed but violated! My personel laptop was stolen with pictures I can’t replace. Along with other personel information. Now I have to witness the hurtful things that people are stating.
The original story was about a business being robbed, but it has been turned into a catalyst for those to be mean.
I’m sorry you feel the need to be hurtful and attack someone when they are down.
I will get past this and still hold my head high. I am blessed to have such wonderful people in my life.
To all my wonderful guests of The Edge Salon, I thank you for staying with me thru this horrible time! To my staff, thank you for believing in me and staying with me thru this all!to Jessica Tollifson, the only one who stayed with me when the others walked. You have been my rock thru this all! With out your help, I don’t think I could have kept going. thank You tons!
To my wonderful family and friends…I
There aren’t words strong enough to explain the thanks I have for you! You have held me thru the tears and kept me going! I live you all so very much!,,
To the ones who robbed my salon, you got away with a few things and I will recover, bur you stole the money I had been working hard to save for my sons wedding in July…I hope you feel good about hurting people…
To this that say I deserved this and it’s Karma, I feel bad for you and pray thAt nothing bad happens to you…I hope no one publicly ridicules you and tries to hurt you when your down and vulnerable.
To those reading this, I hope now you can let this all go,and please let me rebuild the dream I started…
I pray you all have a good 2012 and that life is good to you and yours!

Thank you for sharing your side of the story Sharon, I did not know that these former employees left to work for your ex-partner, it brings another part of the story I was not aware of.

Sorry for your loss, I hope the police help and are able to recover what is stolen.

Rhino, unless you are a former employee than you really shouldn’t speak of what you think you know from what you’ve heard about the situation of the salon walk out. You are the only one that is making assumptions here just as you assume that this is KARMA!

Don’t be so quick to think that the ones that you are commenting to on here may or may not be current or past employees and/or clients…food for thought!

You are more than welcome to patronize whichever salon you like and if that be the Style Lounge then so be it, noone really cares where you choose to go. There is a lot of fabulous salons in town, why be so caddy?!

Actually, any GOOD salon owner pays to keep their stylists continually educated, this is not some special thing only she did.

I have been to neither one of these salons, don’t know anyone personally or have any opinion either way, but I will say, just because someone walked off of the job does not make them without work ethic or morals… your own personal well-being should be more important than any job, and if it got to the point for these ladies to do this there is clearly more to the story than what you are hearing from one or two people. I can go around saying negative things about this person or that person, it doesn’t mean it is true though.

karmakameleon and concernedaustincitizen… aren’t you sort of being hypocritical for attacking Rhino for the same things you are condemning him of doing?

Hartman, I do know the facts just as well if not better then you on this particular issue, as a member of the salon is a relative and I got a phone call in regards to the walk-out within an hour of it being done. I don’t really care about the past, whats done is done. This is about a salon being robbed, and I am taking it a little personal as this is a business owned by family. Sharon will pull through this, she’s never let anything hold her back before, and I doubt this is gonna stop her now.

I agree, a GOOD salon owner keeps her associates up-to-date on all training, but if the funds aren’t being brought in it’s hard to add extra curricula to the job. GREAT salon owners jump through hoops to build up their employees clientele with their own, and then pay out of pocket for training, giving employee’s a place to live with furniture, and offer time off when the books are already filled with appointments, going to work earlier and staying later just to keep the customers as happy as possible and giving the employee time to grieve/rest/or what have you.

Granted most of that is what a dedicated owner does. I know a handful of local business owners that practice similar actions to keep the business afloat. Then there are those that scrape by doing little to nothing to help their employees in any way, kicking them to the curb for putting family first.
