Basketball: Packer boys run out of gas at Midwest Pepsi ShowcasePublished 11:39am Sunday, January 15, 2012
The Austin boys basketball team had a six-game winning streak snapped when it lost 49-34 to Gale-Ettrick-Trempeleau, Wis. in the Midwest Pepsi Showcase in the La Crosse Center Saturday.
The Packers (8-3 overall), who were playing just 14 hours after having won in Rochester Century Friday night, led 17-9 early in the second quarter before they hit the wall.
“We got gassed and everything was coming up short,”Austin head coach Kris Fadness said. “I think it was too much to ask of the guys to play an emotional conference game and then turn around and play the next morning against a tough team,”
The game was tied at 23 at the half, but Austin scored just 11 points in the second half.
GET is unbeaten and ranked No. 5 in Wisconsin.
Austin scoring: Joe Aase, 13; Zach Wessels, 6; Goliath Oboyo, 4; Nate Schwab, 3; Zach Vierkandt, 2; Bret Lukes, 2; Tom Aase, 2; Collin Weisert, 2; free throws: 75 percent (3-for-4)
