Man charged with possessing 6,000 images of child porn

An Albert Lea man was indicted Tuesday in federal court for allegedly possessing almost 6,000 images of child pornography.

The indictment, unsealed Friday, charges Jesse Jeff Stewart, 33, with one count of receipt of child pornography and one count of possession of child pornography.

Jesse Jeff Stewart

The case arose after an investigation by the German federal police and the United States Immigrations and Customs Enforcement’s Homeland Security Investigations.

According to a release from the U.S. Attorney’s Office, authorities executed a search warrant at Stewart’s residence, 1109 Lincoln Ave., on Dec. 2, 2009, at which time they found Stewart in possession of about 5,700 images of child pornography, as well as videos containing similar conduct. The items were reportedly found on four computers and eight CDs.

The release states Stewart also allegedly received, via a peer-to-peer file sharing program, a video that contained images of a minor engaged in sexually explicit conduct in October 2007.

The German federal police had been investigating a computer network that featured child pornography and found that multiple Internet addresses in the United States had downloaded the pornographic images. When they found this out, they contacted American authorities, which ultimately led them to Stewart.

Stewart faces a potential maximum penalty of 20 years in prison, with a mandatory minimum penalty of five years for the receipt of child pornography charge. He faces a potential maximum penalty of 10 years in prison for possession of child pornography.

I too am nice to everyone, I will give you a place to stay, food to eat, clothes on your back etc.. how could anyone feel sympathetic towards someone like this? If this ever happened to your children/grandchildren etc could you honestly tell me you’d sit there and be like “ohh it wasn’t his fault he was attracted to my kids” if you could HONESTLY tell me you would not want the worse possible to happen towards someone who did this to your children then id like to commend you on your sympathetic heart.. as I do not have a heart towards these people and I would be the first to go after some sadistic pervert who did anything to my children.

    rosebandit,

Ok, let me give you a hypothetical… imagine that because of your kind heart you’ve let Mr. Stewart stay in your guest bedroom. You wake up in the middle of the night to find Mr. Stewart taking pictures of your children, (assuming you have children) or worse. If you are telling me that the first words out of your mouth aren’t vile or violent in nature, then I would argue that there is something seriously wrong with YOU.

You’ve made it your duty, for whatever reason, to come on this blog and comment and judge everyone off their comments that they’ve posted. So, am I judging you on your comments? Yep!

      Dear ruserious,

You choose to take issue with my comments when others post “one bullet” and pose sadistic scenarios as some sort of vigilante justice? Huh? These are sad, sad commentaries on those who post, and a very poor reflection on our community. When I point this out, look what happens: The offenders defend themselves with testemonials as to their “kind” nature. I’d expect any child to understand the concept that it’s not what you say, it’s what you do. (To state the obvious – Don’t just say you’re kind and caring, prove it with the words you use to characterize others when you post to the ADH.) C’mon, the emperor has no clothes. I’m stating the obvious (and you and several other don’t seem to be getting it).

For the record, pedophilia has no place in our society. (That’s period, end of discussion.)

I’ve been great Rhino, I’ve just been so frustrated by the ad loading here and the ridiculous “time out” log ins that waste so much time. But this is the ADH ….what else should I expect ?

I just responded to this because it reminded me so much of Eric Torgerson who lived in Austin 10 years ago….. he was a child molesting rat from Hibbing. Positive articles don’t evoke emotions so most people don’t speak up, but when a child pervert is discovered in our midst it’s no small matter to people such as myself who love children and think their protection is paramount.
Good to see you Rhino….. your voice keeps the balance.

Remember the creepy Nazi dude from the first Indiana Jones movie? This guy reminds me of him a little bit.

Remember how that guys face melted? yeah…we can imagine that can’t we?

Hopefully he takes a guilty plea to reduce his prison time and a jury is spared having to see the evidence…which is the only reason to accept his plea.

The reason America is in the fix we are today is too much kindness and too much tolerance towards actions and individuals who destroy the fabric of society. We’ve molly coddled every criminal to the point where the punishment they see is not a deterrent. In and out of the system as justice system job security is all it is. Until people are outraged nothing will change . . . and that goes for everything else too. Politically correct behavior has brought us to our knees and the criminal to his feet.

      Dear Hootch,

The data do not support your opinions.

By a wide margin, the U.S. is the most punitive country in the world. We have 5% of the world’s population but 25% of the world’s incarcerated, one-fourth the pop. of China and almost 2x more incarcerated, and one out of 100 of our citizens are imprisoned. We are a highly punitive society.

From a behavioral perspective, positive reinforcement is far more effective at fostering behavioral change than punishment. Years of social science research has proven this. Although pos. reinf. isn’t “kindness”, it is closer than punishment.

The issue isn’t that we as a society are too kind or compassionate in my opinion. (I don’t think we can have too much of this.) Rather, we aren’t willing to invest in what works, specifically prevention efforts to develop and nurture our most vulnerable – very young children and families, often poor, under-educated, and under-socialized. Our jails and prisons often house those who we have failed as a society.

As a criminal justice strategy, “kindness” is a naive idea. Accountability and rehabilitation work, but this requires a dedication of resources we haven’t made. It’s far to easy to say “Let’s punish the thugs.” We’re able to walk off our moral high ground believing we’re “right”, all the while failing our communities, our fellow citizens, and frankly ourselves.

Practice kindness, rhino. Otherwise, you’re little better than those who commit the crimes. — Your provocative comments are approaching sadistic. Be careful. This isn’t healthy, not for you or for children who may read your comments. Wait, what’s this article about?

P.S. – For those who might want to post that I’m sympathetic to those who have perverse interests or who commit crimes, egregious or petty. That’s not the case. Rather, it’s my opinion that people don’t have to be so vile or violent with their comments.

    Dear soapbox,

    Really?

It looks like you win the prize for most shocking and depraved comment to this article, but it’s only by default since two others had their comments censored. How long do you think it’ll be before you’re comment is censored too?

It’d be nice if ADH had a 3 strike rule – 3 censored comments and you can’t post for 6 months. Maybe get rid of the annonymity – I bet you’d get off of your soapbox with comments like this if your name was next to it.
