Ron Whalen asks a Mower County deputy why Connie Branchaud needs to be removed from the Lyle Public School board meeting in November. Branchaud said the deputy would either need to call for backup or eat more Wheaties to remove her.

7. No end in sight for Lyle drama

The concern about Lyle Public School leadership won’t be melting away with 2011.

The Lyle Public School board will review Superintendent Jim Dusso’s contract on Jan. 9. Dusso has come under fire over the past year for his leadership style and his interactions with students, staff and the community. Critics say Dusso has had a negative effect on the district while supporters point to Lyle’s improved MCA scores as proof Dusso’s tenure is beneficial.

Dusso was hired as superintendent for one year, as former Lyle superintendent Jerry Reshetar is expected to resign as superintendent of Grand Meadow and Glenville/Emmons Public Schools this summer, making way for a new superintendent to preside over all three districts, which share resources and staff as part of a consortium agreement.
