Dusso to leave Lyle Public Schools in July

Published 4:59pm Friday, January 6, 2012

Lyle Superintendent Jim Dusso said rumors he may resign are untrue, but his wife is moving to Kentucky and he will join her after his contract expires at the end of June.

Lyle Public School board chairman Dean Rohne is also rumored to be resigning at the board’s January meeting this Monday at 7 p.m in the Lyle school library.

Dusso met with several friends Thursday and the entire staff Friday. At Friday’s meeting, he told staff of his future plans and that his wife had accepted a position at the University of Kentucky Medical Center. In addition, Dusso gave a speech to staff about having passion for education and refocusing their efforts over the summer.

Dusso’s wife will move to Kentucky before the school year ends and he will join her in July. He said he will serve the remainder of his superintendent contract, which expires June 30.

“I have a contract, I’m obligated to that contract, and I refuse to put Lyle Public Schools in a very bad position,” Dusso said. “That risks students and I will not do that.”

Dusso is also principal of Lyle Public Schools, and will leave the district with a year left in his principal’s contract.

Starting last week, there were rumors that Rohne would resign from the board in January. Rohne was previously rumored to be resigning in October, November and December. He has missed several meetings this year due to work conflicts and did not attend the board’s two December meetings.

The Daily Herald tried multiple times this week to reach Rohne and Dusso for comment regarding Rohne’s resignation. Rohne refused to comment Tuesday on whether or not he would resign. On Friday, Dusso refused to comment on Rohne’s situation, citing respect for Rohne.

Some board members don’t know whether the resignation rumors are true. Board member Dan King emailed the board and Dusso Friday morning asking Dusso and Rohne to either confirm or deny rumors that they are resigning. He also asked for an agenda for the school board meeting scheduled for Monday.

“I have taken my job as a board member very seriously and I deserve to have the same information given to me as the rest of you,” King said in the email. “This has never been done. As a whole, you have done everything in your power to make it as difficult as possible for me.”

King concluded the email with “We, the board, have failed this community and school miserably.”

King sent multiple emails to Rohne and Dusso this week asking for clarification and has repeatedly said before that he is unable to get information he needs and that the district does not help him. Dusso said in an email Friday that King has had as much access to information as other board members.

“There are protocols that have been put in place for him specifically to gather information and to maintain a level of knowledge,” Dusso wrote. “It is frustrating that he chooses to not utilize the same protocols that other board members have been required to follow because of his actions.”

King has asked the district repeatedly to meet him halfway on information requests, as he works in Rochester and cannot come to Lyle during Lyle Public School hours. King has said before the district has not helped him nor let him know about school issues.

Those ignorant idiots in Lyle don’t deserve a good school administrator. Its the parents there who mostly don’t know a thing about education. Its little wonder Lyle “graduates” have a hard time coping with the real world and real colleges.

Yup Lyle students do not deserve this work of art. If he was a “good” Superintendent he would credit the teachers and students for the test scores. Right?? Dusso did not write the curriculum. Dusso did not teach the curriculum. Dusso did not take the tests that the students were scored on. If The Test scores are so high why did he have to move around the teachers.

If He was a “good” superintendent… he would have kept the lines of communication open with the public and media.

If he was a “good” Superintendent… why did he fire or demote all of the district support staff in the office except his “Personal Secretary”?

If He was a “good” Superintendent… why did he allow a noose to be hung in the office of one of the schools employees?

And lastly, Why when asked by the media for comment are the teachers of the district scared for their jobs? I bet its because he is a “good superintendent”!

Make sure the screen door hits him in the rear end on the way out!

God was watching over us! Thank God he is following his wife down to Kentucky! This isn’t a big secret we all knew he was leaving in June. We just can’t figure out why he has to cause so much damage up to his departure.

How many comments on this article or past Lyle articles are from people who have actually been a target or in direct relation to things that have happened, good or bad? I could guess and say that there are trustworthy and honest people in the school district that have had good/bad experiences. I can say the same about any dishonest and untrustworthy people who have had the same experiences. To tell these people that they should react to their experiences in a certain way, is not for anyone to judge. No one will really ever know the truth about all that has gone on, and to continue name-calling, blaming this person and that person, etc. is just plain pointless. Classifying everyone in Lyle as ignorant idiots…seriously? I just hope that this community can pull back together and prayers go out to EVERYONE involved for the healing to start.

First of all I can’t even reply to mensaman. If you had a bad experience in Lyle I guess it is a free for all in this comment section to be very nasty. The thing that bothers me is that what is being said is pointed at the whole town. Just so you know there are some really wonderful people that live here. Next is for dody. You have used every chance you have gotten to put people in this town down. You said in your previous comment that Shake smeared the name of 2 good people, but then you did the exact same thing by singling out a teacher. That teacher is one of the most well liked teachers by the kids in Lyle. Others over the past months have tried to call you out to state who you are with all of your stong opinions, but I guess you feel SAFE behind you name DODY!!!! Sorry dody for what ever made you so bitter toward this town, but it sure was not all the residents that live here that hurt you. In return you don’t care if you hurt every single person that lives in this town. WOW!!!!

modelnut I totally agree with your comments. Dody what has pissed you off so bad that all you have to say is negative? Seriously be a man and stop hiding behind a screen name. I have known these teachers that you are talking about and they are all great teachers. They are there for the kids/for all the right reasons not just because of the 3 months off. Because they love what they do they dont make a ton of money so most of them get summer jobs to help out. I have always thought that teachers should make more money for all that they do and have to deal with during the day. They care for your children but they get dont get the credit they should. I myself learned a lot from the 5th grade teacher you are talking about Dody. I am so thankful for all the teachers I have had thru out the years, they along with our parents make us who we are.

I really feel sorry for the students and teachers of Lyle as now you will be in need of a new superintendent. Who in the world would want to try and work in that type of enviroment????? Anyone truly qualified canidate will “pass” this job up–working in such hostility and where a few parents or towns people want to run the school–it is unbelievable. I hope all who see the job posting also look at the past board meetings and the upheavel a few have managed to create. Shame on you few.

Im totally for standing up for what you believe in, but isn’t this getting old? We all sit behind our computer screens and screen names and accuse. Both sides do it. This is just…i can’t even put into words how annoying and upseting this all is.
When is this going to stop? Like I said, im totally for standing up for what you believe in… but at some point there needs to be a compromise. If we sit and just complain and accuse, i PROMISE you that it will end up nowhere.
It needs to stop somewhere, please!…

    Dear “mst”,
I’d first like to start off by saying I know who you really are no hiding behind that screen anymore.on other terms what a good example you’re setting for the students you try to teach.. Not! They all know that workers are being forced to do what Dusso says.. Come on now.. The majority you say is for dusso? Wrong.. Did you ask the students? Didn’t think so.

-”ComeOn”….you are exactly right. The latest “survey” that mst is referring to could only be the Dusso evaluation that was for “teachers only”. As far as I know, it was never publicized or submitted to the board like they had planned. That could only mean that mst is a “teacher”. The obsession with the word “differentiate”, Dusso’s favorite, even though most of the time he can’t spell it, is a total giveaway as well.
Stating that the “majority” of the teachers like him means absolutely nothing. With his track record, do you really think that teachers are going to say that they don’t like him at this point? Hardly.
News flash…There are other people in that building that also have to work for Dusso and for some reason, they were NOT allowed to evaluate him. It is my belief that all employees of this district should be treated with equal respect and their opinions should be as valid as any teacher.
They all interact with our children and play a part in teaching them. Thank God for the non-certified staff, In my opinion, they have set far better examples than others in that building.
There is more to learning than what is taught through books and tests. What the children see and hear, the examples set and behaviors modeled in that building are sometimes a much bigger part of who they become and certainly what they remember.
Non certified staff have never felt the need to form a union before this man came here, and he did everything in his power to try and stop it from happening. Congrats to them for their courage to take a stand and see it through. As far as the “minority” and the “few families” that “mst” keeps referring to….I think it might be time to re-evaluate that one~

getaclue- I agree I think all teachers and staff should be treated with equal respect. Get this…I think it’s funny how this “great guy” that some refer him as..actually gave SOME teachers Christmas cards and NOT others. So when some teachers went to check their mailboxes in the teachers lounge some were sitting there opening a Christmas card from him and some looked in their box and didn’t have one! What a nice guy that treats everybody equally right? What a joke!

Have you done research on AYP and how many schools DO NOT make AYP? It IS something to celebrate. You are so negative and full of hate. Again, if Lyle is so wrong and has so many bad qualities- teachers, administration, etc. I think it is time you switch schools and go somewhere else, where someone will do whatever you want and can put your child in whatever grade you want her in.
