Public Skates will start at Riverside Arena on Tuesday from 5 to 6:30 p.m.

The cost is $4 to skate and you can rent a pair of skates for $1.

The schedule for the next two weeks will be from 5:15 to 6:45 p.m. Wenesday and Thursday, 3 to 5 p.m. on Friday, and from 5:15 to 6:45 p.m. Oct. 25, 26 and 27.

Youth Volleyball for grades four, five and six will be offered Saturdays from Oct. 29 through Dec. 3 except for Nov. 26.

They will meet on Saturday mornings at Banfield Elementary and the cost is $20. Please register by Friday. Fourth grade will meet 9:15 to 9:55 a.m., fifth-grade from 10 to 10:40 a.m. and sixth-grade from 10:45 to 11:25 a.m.

Come and listen to James Keelaghan, Canadian folk singer and musician this Sunday at 7 p.m. in the Ruby Rupner Auditorium at the Jay C. Hormel Nature Center. The show is free.

James Keelaghan has been called Canada’s finest singer-songwriter of the last 50 years. He is an artist who has proven to be a man for all seasons.

As the calendar pages have turned, for almost a quarter of a century now, this poet laureate of the folk and roots music world has gone about his work with a combination of passion, curiosity, intent and intensity.

James has graced our stage three times since 1996. We look forward to his return.

You are cordially invited to the Friends of the Jay C. Hormel Nature Center’s Ninth Annual Fundraiser Thanksgiving Feast: “A Legacy For Generations” on Saturday, Oct. 29, at the St. Edward’s Corcoran Center.

Social hour is 5 to 6:30 p.m. and Banquet at 6:30 p.m, all proceeds will go to the Jay C. Hormel Nature Center Operations Fund.

The Youth Activity Center is now open. The YAC is located in the rooms on the east side of Riverside Arena; use the northeast door for access. YAC is open to all youth in Mower County in grades 5 to 12 and all activities are free.

There are pool tables, air hockey, DDR, Guitar Hero, Wii, PlayStation II, Game Cube, hi speed internet, beading, large screen TV’s, games, cards, table tennis, dart boards, foosball, punching bag, a piano, a sewing machine and always free popcorn.

Hours are Monday through Friday from 3:30 to 8 p.m., Saturday from 3 to 9 p.m. and a reminder that we close at 6 p.m. when Bruins have home games. We open at 1 p.m. on scheduled no school days or early releases.

Bring in a non-perishable food item to the game and receive $2 off your price of admission for the Oct. 22 Austin Bruins against Alexandria at Riverside Arena.
