Chuony

Nyamuoch Peter Chuony, 19, pleaded guilty to first-degree burglary. Another first-degree burglary charge was dismissed as part of a plea agreement.

Chuony’s counterpart in the crime, 18-year-old Nyakier James Thiach, pleaded guilty to one count of first-degree burglary earlier this week.

The incident took place in the 900 block of Seventh Avenue NE around 9:45 p.m. Friday, July 29. Witnesses said the victim, who was reportedly eight months pregnant at the time, was screaming for help.

According to a court complaint, Thiach and Chuony entered the woman’s apartment uninvited asking for someone named “Lucio” who reportedly owed them money. When the woman told them she doesn’t know anyone named Lucio, they demanded to know where Lucio lives.

Thiach

According to the complaint, Chuony told the woman she would get her brothers to come over if she called police.

Thiach reportedly dropped a plastic container holding $50 of change near a tree as she left the scene. The victim’s roommate identified it as his coin container.

When police questioned her, Thiach denied entering the apartment or stealing the coins. As she was being handcuffed, she said she stole the money because “they are here illegally,” according to a court complaint.

Thiach will be sentenced Oct. 20. Chuony will be sentenced Nov. 4.
