After a dip in grandstand attendance in 2010, Mower County Fair director Ken Trom said organizers are pleased with this year’s turnout.

Trom estimated about 14,000 people attended the fair Wednesday, and the grandstand event, Motokazie supercross, was a big success. Trom said around 9,000 people turned out the same day last year, and attendance was up 20 to 25 percent each of the first two nights.

“Attendance has been really good,” he said. “Last year it was just so hot.

“You can plan and plan and plan, but if the weather goes against you, the plans go down the tube. It’s really a weather dependent activity.”
