Martha Schneider

Martha was born on March 1, 1918, in Johnsburg, Minn. to Math and Emma (Steiger) Rauen. Martha was married on Sept. 1, 1937, to Leo Schneider at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church in Johnsburg. The Schneiders lived on a farm southeast of Johnsburg until moving to Adams in 1970. Leo and Martha celebrated their 70th anniversary on Sept. 1, 2007.

Martha loved the farm and was Leo’s partner in farming. She was always beside him, picking rock, planting crops in the spring and harvesting in the fall. Her gardens were always free of weeds. She canned all of their garden vegetables and pickles. Martha raised baby chicks, roosters, ducks and geese every year. Her son-in-law, Duane, made special rollaway nests for the eggs to make egg gathering easier. Martha also cooked at the St. John School in Johnsburg and worked at the Libby Canning factory in Rochester.
