Alice Schmeider

Alice Schmieder, 99, a 33-year resident of Marysville, Wash., died peacefully on Jan. 8.

Alice Eugenia Johnson was born on Aug. 14, in Felch, Mich., to Victor and Sandra Johnson. After moving to Chicago as a young adult, Alice met and married James Schmieder in 1934. They became residents of Austin in 1937, where they owned and operated the Austin City Bus Line. Upon their retirement in 1978 they moved to Marysville. Her husband, Jim, preceded her in death in 1978.

Alice is the beloved mother of two sons: Kenneth Schmieder (Nancy), Holland, N.Y., and John Schmieder, Sioux Falls, S.D.

She is survived by her six nieces: Janet Ross, Marysville, Wash.; Sanda Reed (Joe), Marysville, Wash.; Vicki Baunsgard Cheney, Wash.; Christine Fell, Greenwood, Ind.; Lois Schmieder Austin; and Susan Maccoy, Chicago; one nephew: Robert Schmieder of La Habra, Calif.

Alice is also survived by her sister-in-law: Elsie Johnson of Iron Mountain, Mich.; and by many dear great-nephews, great-nieces, and great-great-nieces and nephews.

Alice was also preceded in death by her sisters Winnie Eastman,Thyra, Ingrid, and Julia Johnson, and by her brothers, Carl, Henning, and Alvin (Leona) Johnson.

Alice had many loving friends from her years in Minnesota and Iowa and also in Marysville. She actively worked in the family business, and she enjoyed various bridge club memberships for many years. She also enjoyed traveling to Europe with her husband to visit extended family members, and she continued to travel until her early 90s. During her years in Marysville, Alice was a member of Bethlehem Lutheran Church. For the past four years, Alice was a cheerful resident at Linda Farrington’s Adult Family Home, where her loving nature will be missed. The family wishes to thank the entire staff for its special, loving care of Alice.

A graveside service for the family will be held on Wednesday, Jan. 19, at 1 p.m., followed by a memorial service at Bethelehem Lutheran Church, at 2:30 p.m., 7215 51st Avenue, NE, Marysville, WA 98270.
