NFL Picks: Some familiar matchupsPublished 8:35am Friday, January 14, 2011
Here are the picks:
Baltimore at Pittsburgh
Steelers 16, Baltimore 13
These games are always very hard hitting and usually low scoring. Joe Flacco is getting better, but I still see him making a crucial mistake in the second half that costs his squad.
These teams split the regular season series, but Ben Roethlisberger was suspended during Baltimore’s win. I think Roethlisberger shows up in the clutch on Saturday.
Green Bay at Atlanta
Falcons 23, Green Bay 20
I don’t trust Mike McCarthy enough to pick my Packers on the road for a second straight week. He almost blew the Eagles game by calling eight straight running plays down the stretch and was bailed out when Mike Vick threw a careless interception.
Matt Ryan won’t likely make those types of mistakes and the Falcon’s rushing attack is superior to what the Eagles brought to the table.
Still, the Packers have a lot to look forward to, as they should bring back some key players next year who were injured this year.
Seattle at Chicago
Chicago 33, Seattle 13
The Seahawks put up a great fight against the Saints and walked away with an unexpected win, but the Bears defense is not nearly as easy to score on and Matt Hasselbeck is unlikely to play like that again in his career.
New York Jets at New England
New England 40, Jets 20
The Patriots had weeks to get ready for their division foe and I’m sure they’ll come up with something the Jets aren’t ready for.
On a side note, I’m sick of people saying that Tom Brady is playing the best football of his career. Are analysts really that forgetful?
This year Brady has 3,900 passing yards with 36 TDs and 4 interceptions for a quarterback rating of 111.0. Just three years ago, Brady had 4,806 yards with 50 TDs and eight interceptions for a rating of 117.2 on a Patriots team that went 18-1.
And I don’t care of Randy Moss isn’t there this year, New England’s pair of rookie tight ends and the addition of Deion Branch have made Moss a distant memory.
End of argument.
