Woman drives into flood water (updated)

Published 12:33pm Friday, September 24, 2010

A woman was rescued by the Austin Police Department after she drove her car into a floodwater-covered street  on Hormel Century Parkway near Fourth Street NE shortly after 12:30 p.m. Friday.

According to Lt. John Mueller, police received a call that a woman in her car was stranded in the middle of the street, which at the time was submerged in floodwater.

Detective Steve Sandvick of the Mower County Sheriff’s Office and Officer Mark Walski arrived on the scene first. Along with Mueller, they managed to rescue the woman, who was out of her car by then, by driving into the water with their Tahoe SUV. The entire incident was over by 12:35 p.m.

Mueller said the woman was uninjured. The car will remain on the street until the water is low enough to be towed.

Chiodos…. do you just want to give up sometimes? I mean after all we find mistakes in almost every story.

On another note… What is wrong with you??? (to the officers) Driving your SUV into the water to get her??? lucky it didnt get light and wash away.

    “DONT DRIVE INTO THE WATER”

Would you like a little “Water 101″???
1 foot of water lightens a vehicle by about 1500 pound.
i foot of water traveling at about 8mph (8mph is about how fast a normal river flows) can put about 500 pounds of lateral force on the vehicle.

So thank you for putting her life in even more danger and not to mention our cities SUV.

Now if this woman is not familiar to the area then I understand, but… Austin floods year after year (almost) and you would think people would know the areas to avoid when there is flooding and just be a bit more aware and not take chances.

    *facepalm*
