Mower County Fair just two months away

is preparing to dazzle and delight thousands of people in August.
The Mower County Agricultural Society (Fair Board) has announced its lineup of entertainment and special events for August 6-11 at the fairgrounds in southwest Austin.
Motocross action kicks off the grandstand lineup 7 p.m. Tuesday, August 6.
Demolition derby action takes place 7:30 p.m. Wednesday, August 7, and again 2 p. m. Sunday, August 11.
Johnny Holm will entertain 8:30 p.m. Thursday, August 8.
The Burlington Rodeo is the top attraction Friday and Saturday, August 9 and 10.
Free entertainment is featured at the Godfather's Fair Square stage.
The lineup includes a Spirit Fest Tuesday, August 7; three performances by Tina and Lena Thursday, August 8; the winners in the Outstanding Senior Citizen contest Thursday, August 7; 4-H Fashion Revue plus the centennial celebration of 4-H and a concert by Six Mile Grove Friday, August 9;
Day Care Day Fun Friday, August 9; Talent Contest
and Austin Swing Band, Saturday, August 10; Old-time Fiddles Contest plus an Elvis impersonator, Sunday, August 11.
Duane Nelson will return for two days of chain saw sculpting Friday and Saturday, August 9 and 10.
On Sunday, August 11, Nelson's amazing carvings will be auctioned also from Godfather's Fair Square stage.
Dale Merriam will once again bring his outstanding Merriam's Midway Shows and Attractions, games, rides and concessions to the Mower County Fair.
Of course, the Mower County Historical Center will be open throughout the County Fair hosted by Mower County Historical Society volunteers.
There will also be the always popular 4-H and open class livestock and non-livestock competition.
Mr. and Mrs.
Thomas Egan, Grand Meadow, are the new superintendents of the creative arts show.
Contestants for the talent show are being recruited The categories are preteen and younger, teenagers 13-19 and an open class for all ages.
Any resident of Mower County can enter. The entry fee is $10.
Winners can earn a chance to compete at the 2002 Minnesota State Fair.
Vandy Newman will be the superintendent of the talent contest again this summer.
The Old-Time Fiddlers Contest is always one of the most popular single events at the County Fair.
Crowds fill the stands around Godfather's Fair Square to see fiddlers, young and old, perform for the enjoyment of all.
For this contest, fiddlers do not have to be residents of Mower County.
Also by August, major improvements to the "grand daddy " of all fairgrounds buildings, Crane Pavilion, will be complete in time to be showcased during the Mower County Fair.
The fairgrounds is a popular visiting place throughout the summer.
The Mower County Historical Center is a steady attraction from may through October.
Other special events this summer at the fairgrounds include: the Lyle Line riders Horse Show, June 16;
Camp Winnebago Wagon train, June 22, 232; Quality Pork Processors, Inc. employees picnic, June 30; Austin Area Chamber of Commerce Ag-Business picnic, July 16; and National Barrow Show, Sept. 9-11.
Until the single most popular event of them all, the Mower County Fair, arrives in August, Ron Osmon and his grounds-keeping crew will be readying the fairgrounds with new improvements including display cases in the creative arts building.
Also, the Mower County Board of Commissioners has gone on the record to promise other major improvements, including the long-overdue replacement of livestock barns prior to the 2003 Mower County Fair and NBS.
